What is CyberSecurity?

The Internet has become a staple in our everyday lives. We use it for work, school, shopping, banking, and entertainment. With so much of our personal and professional lives now digital, it’s more important than ever to make sure our online activity is secure. Here are some tips to help you stay safe online:
1. Use strong passwords.
A strong password is at least eight characters long and includes a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using easily guessed words like your name, birthdate, or favorite sports team.
2. Don’t reuse passwords.
If a hacker gains access to one of your online accounts, they could use that same password to break into your other accounts. That’s why having different passwords for each of your online accounts is essential.
3. Keep your software up to date.
Hackers exploit security vulnerabilities in outdated software to access your devices and data. Make sure you’re using the latest version of your operating system and all the applications on your devices.
4. Use a VPN.
A VPN (a virtual private network) encrypts your internet traffic, making it more difficult for hackers to intercept your data. This is especially important if you’re using public Wi-Fi.
5. Be cautious about what you click.
Hackers can use malicious links and attachments to infect your devices with malware. Don’t click on links or download attachments from unknown or untrustworthy sources.
6. Back up your data.
In case your devices are lost or stolen, or if you become a victim of ransomware, it’s essential to have backups of your data. Store your backups in a safe, offline location.
7. Be aware of social engineering attacks.
Social engineering attacks are when hackers use deception to trick you into revealing sensitive information or giving them access to your devices or accounts. Be wary of emails, texts, or calls from someone claiming to be from a trusted organization, like your bank or the IRS. Don’t click on links or download attachments from these sources. And never give out your personal or financial information to someone you don’t know.
By following these tips, you can help protect yourself from cyberattacks. Stay safe out there!
